News Release - April 24, 2003 FORBES TO OVERSEE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOLPLUS
The provincial government is implementing SchoolPlus -- a new concept in which schools are centres of learning and community support.
Saskatoon Idylwyld MLA David Forbes has been appointed as Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Learning to oversee the implementation of SchoolPlus. "SchoolPlus is a priority for this government," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "It ensures that all children and youth have access to the supports they need to take full advantage of Saskatchewan's quality education system." "Saskatchewan continues to be an innovator in education," Forbes said. "As a teacher, I have experienced in the classroom what an improvement community support makes in a child's education." The SchoolPlus model, recommended by the Role of the School Task Force, recognizes that schools must have two primary functions: to educate children and youth, and to support human services delivery at the community level. As the Legislative Secretary, Forbes will provide support to the Minister of Learning and the Department, and will strengthen the liaison relationships with the education community and other human services sector partners. -30- For More Information, Contact:
