SASKWATER PROVIDES SAFE AND RELIABLE WATER SERVICES TO MORE COMMUNITIES

More Saskatchewan communities are receiving safe and reliable water services. In 2005, SaskWater continued to grow, providing more people and communities in Saskatchewan with water supply, Certified Operations and Maintenance and wastewater services.

"Since our first complete year of business in 2003, SaskWater has added a total of 13 new customers across all lines of business. Customers provided with new services include Elbow, White City, Star City, Star City Colony, St. Louis, Cudworth, Bruno, Vanscoy, Paynton, Halbrite, Canadian Salt, Jackfish Lake West Water Pipeline Association and North Central Rural Pipeline Association," Minister responsible for SaskWater David Forbes said.

According to the corporation's annual report, tabled today, operating revenues increased by $1.1 million in 2005 to $17.8 million as a result of new customers and rate increases implemented in August 2004 and April 2005. In 2005 SaskWater invested $2.4 million to expand and improve water systems serving rural Saskatchewan.

"SaskWater also published its first annual Water Quality Report as part of the 2005 Annual Report Essential," Forbes said. "The Water Quality Report summarizes water quality data from 2005 as part of the company's commitment to delivering high quality water to rural Saskatchewan."

SaskWater offers water supply, wastewater services and Certified Operations and Maintenance, serving 55 municipalities, 37 industrial customers and 42 public water boards, user groups, co-operatives and pipeline associations. SaskWater also provides program management of the Northern Water and Sewer Program in the Northern Administration District, and operator training and support for 48 First Nations.
