OCTOBER 17 TO 23 IS FOSTER FAMILIES WEEK

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed the week of October 17 to 23 as Foster Families Week, a time to recognize foster families in our province for the quality care they provide to children and youth in need.

"Foster Families Week provides an opportunity to honour the unique and caring contributions made by all foster families across Saskatchewan," Social Services Minister June Draude said. "Through the proclamation of Foster Families Week, our government is pleased to help celebrate those special women and men, and other family members, who open their hearts and their homes to children and youth who need a safe, caring place to live."

"Foster care is an essential service for children, youth and their families who must live apart for a period of time," Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said. "Every child needs a place to call home, and there continues to be pressing need for foster families in many Saskatchewan communities."

Currently, there are more than 700 Ministry-approved foster families in the province. Together, these families provide children and youth across Saskatchewan with a loving, nurturing place to call home.
