SENIORS RIDE FOR JUST $10 IN SEPTEMBER

For the month of September, seniors 60 years and older will be able to ride anywhere along the Saskatchewan Transportation Company's (STC) network for only $10 one-way.

"With this offer we want as many seniors as possible to experience the comfort, cleanliness, efficiency and eco-friendliness of bus travel," Minister responsible for STC Jim Reiter said. "Seniors can get out and reconnect with friends and family at a great price and leave the driving to STC."

STC reaches 290 communities. The extensive coverage STC provides gives Saskatchewan seniors province-wide access to this offer. STC ran a similar promotion in May 2011.

"The 2011 May senior seat sale was a huge success," STC President and CEO Shawn Grice said. "More and more people are finding that STC provides comfortable, reliable and safe service."

Since September 2009, more than 45,000 riders have taken part in STC's senior seat sale which has helped increase the company's ridership levels over recent years. As of July 31, STC's 2011 total ridership results show an increase of 12.2 per cent over 2010, an increase of 18,076 passengers.

Bus travel is an environmentally friendly way to travel. Transport Canada reports bus travel as having the lowest social cost (air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, noise, road congestion and accidents) per passenger kilometre than any other form of transportation.
