REMEMBERING WORKERS KILLED AND INJURED ON THE JOB

The names of Saskatchewan workers who died as a result of workplace injuries or illnesses during the last year were read into the official record of the Provincial Legislature today. Labour Minister Deb Higgins read the 20 names into Hansard as part of the annual observances for the April 28th National Day of Mourning for Workers Killed or Injured on the Job.

"Today is a day to remember all the people who have lost their lives in the building of our communities, our province, and our nation," Higgins said. "It is also a time to renew our commitment to ending the suffering caused by workplace accidents and illness."

Higgins said everyone involved in the workplace -- employers, contractors, owners, workers, supervisors, self-employed persons, suppliers -- is responsible for identifying and controlling health and safety hazards in the workplace.

"We must all work co-operatively to make safety an integral part of our lives, both at work and at home."
