MAJOR INVESTMENT FOR SASKATCHEWAN YOUTH

Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff today announced Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan is investing $1 million in the One Life Makes a Difference Foundation to help at-risk youth obtain a university education.

"Discussions on Government participation in this program began several years ago, and we were pleased to have now finalized support for the One Life Makes a Difference program," Cheveldayoff said. "The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to support our most valuable resource: Saskatchewan children. This money will help Saskatchewan children get on a path for a bright and secure future."

The One Life Makes a Difference Foundation was incorporated in 2006 and identifies exceptional students who are able to move forward and offers them an educational passport. These students may be at-risk children in cities or rural Saskatchewan that lack educational opportunities. Prospective students and their parents work with teachers to discuss a plan that will prepare the student for further learning.

"The objective is to see sponsored children move into stronger learning environments, complete high school then university," One Life Makes a Difference co-founder and director Mo Bundon said.

The Hill companies and its principles have donated $1.3 million to the foundation. In addition to the government's contribution, the foundation is requesting significant contributions from other major Saskatchewan companies.

"We expect further substantial support will be forthcoming to assist in educational development of underprivileged children in Saskatchewan," Harvard Developments Chairman, President and CEO Paul Hill said.

Crown Investments Corporation has several programs designed to create opportunities for youth and aboriginal participation in the workplace including GradWorks and the CIC Aboriginal Bursary program.
