SASKATCHEWAN WILL ROCK AS FREE CENTENNIAL CONCERTS HIT TEN COMMUNITIES

Saskatchewan recording artists Wide Mouth Mason, Jason Plumb and Breach of Trust are among the headline acts that will keep crowds of young people rocking this summer as they hit the stage for Centennial Crop Checkin' 2005, a free centennial concert that will be held in ten communities.

"Saskatchewan has incredibly talented singers and musicians and we are thrilled that so many of them are joining us to help make centennial celebrations more special for the youth of the province," Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair and Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel said. "The Centennial Crop Checkin' 2005 tour will be a must-see, made-in-Saskatchewan event that showcases our talent and gives people a great reason to attend a party celebrating Saskatchewan's first 100 years."

The Centennial Crop Checkin' 2005 tour is aimed at Saskatchewan's youth who have indicated a desire to celebrate the centennial through concerts that profile the music scene in Saskatchewan. Three top performers will appear at each concert, which will be held in Cypress Hills, Gravelbourg, Humboldt, Kamsack, Kindersley, La Ronge, Meadow Lake, North Battleford, Tisdale and Weyburn. These communities are centrally located within a geographic region and able to attract young people from the surrounding area. They also have the facilities and volunteers necessary to stage a large show.

Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 is contributing $200,000 toward the tour. Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw contributed $25,000. Centennial Crop Checkin' 2005 is being administered by the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association (SRIA).

"Over the years, Saskatchewan has nurtured some heavy hitters in the music industry and the Crop Checkin' tour provides an opportunity to expose music lovers to some of that talent," SRIA Executive Director Noreen Neu said. "The concert tour will serve as inspiration to future generations of Saskatchewan artists who will follow in the footsteps of these fantastic performers."

Additional performers who will appear at one or more of the concerts include Megan Lane, The Wheat Monkeys and seven other as yet to be determined performers.

"Saskatchewan talent will shine on this tour, providing one more opportunity to show residents and visitors why the world could use a little more Saskatchewan," Hagel said.
