News Release - May 31, 2005 UPGRADING FOUR YORKTON AREA SCHOOLS
The Government of Saskatchewan is investing approximately $1.1 million to improve four schools in Yorkton and the surrounding area.
"When we invest in capital projects for education, we are investing in our students and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "These projects show our continued commitment to improving Saskatchewan schools." The capital projects include: • The York School Division will receive $400,000 for renovations to Yorkton Regional High School; • The Lakeview School Division will receive approximately $322,000 for an addition to Rose Valley School; • The Saskatchewan Central School Division will receive approximately $277,000 for an addition to Punnichy Elementary School; and • The Potashville School District will receive approximately $89,000 to replace a portion of the roof at Esterhazy Central High School. These projects will be cost-shared with the school divisions listed above. "Students and teachers need modern, well-equipped learning facilities in order to succeed," Deputy Premier and Yorkton MLA, Clay Serby said. "These projects will go a long way in helping Yorkton and area youth reach their potential." These projects are part of the provincial government's investment of $6.2 million to improve 32 Saskatchewan schools. With these projects, the total commitment by government to K-12 capital projects this fiscal year is $26.6 million.
