CPSP MINISTER EXPRESSES THANKS FOR POLICE AND PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IN INMATE CAPTURE

Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister Darryl Hickie is pleased to learn that the remaining inmate who escaped from the Regina Correctional Centre on August 24 has been captured.

Hickie recognized the extensive effort in capturing the escaped inmates by police services including the RCMP, Winnipeg Police Service, Regina Police Service and the File Hills First Nations Police Service. He acknowledges the assistance of citizens and others who provided the information leading to their capture.

"I am pleased that through the diligence of municipal police services and the RCMP in three provinces, and through information provided by individual citizens, the public's peace of mind can be restored," Hickie said. "The investigation into the escape continues. I look forward to implementing the investigators' recommendations so that we can take steps to prevent future escapes by strengthening the security of our institutions."
