SASK GAMING HONOURED FOR DIVERSITY

Sask Gaming's efforts to create an inclusive workforce paid off, as the Crown corporation took home the top prize in the Business category of Canada's Diversity Awards, held October 16 in Regina.

The awards, presented by the EMCY (Enriching My Canada and Yours) Foundation, recognize individuals, businesses and organizations that promote diversity across the country. Awards were made in a number of categories: Humanitarian, Sport/Fitness, City/Community and Youth.

"We're honoured to have a diverse workforce at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw," Minister responsible for Sask Gaming Bill Hutchinson said. "Our mandate is to operate in a socially responsible manner, in partnership with First Nations. Forty per cent of the casinos' employees are Aboriginal and we are still looking to meet our mandate of fifty per cent."

The Business Award recognizes those businesses that have demonstrated that diversity is truly an engine of growth for the Canadian economy. One of Sask Gaming's goals is to be a choice employer, and the corporation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of Aboriginal people through quality employment, business partnerships and charitable giving.

Vice-President of Human Resources and Aboriginal Relations Blaine Pilatzke accepted the award on behalf of Sask Gaming.

"We celebrate our diversity," Pilatzke said. "And have come to recognize that it is the strength and heart of our organization."
