ROYAL VISIT ITINERARY ANNOUNCED

Today Provincial Secretary Joanne Crofford announced the itinerary for the June visit of the Earl of Wessex to Saskatchewan.

In view of the announcement today by Buckingham Palace that the Earl and Countess are expecting their first child in December, the Countess will not be able to accompany her husband on this visit.

On June 19th the Earl of Wessex will receive a public welcome at the Regina Legislative Building, during which he will turn the sod for the Golden Jubilee statue of the Queen on her horse Burmese. The Earl of Wessex will also inaugurate the Prince Edward room in the Legislature. At noon he will celebrate Regina's centennial at City Hall followed by a civic luncheon. In the afternoon the Earl will tour the Regina sound stage. In the evening the Earl of Wessex will attend a special performance at the Globe Theatre, of which Prince Edward is patron.

On June 20th the Earl of Wessex will travel to Lloydminster to mark the city's centennial and attend a civic luncheon. His next stop is Prince Albert, where he will officially open the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts and participate in Urban Treaty Days. He will end the day in Melfort where the Earl will inaugurate Prince Edward Park.

On June 21st, National Aboriginal Day, the Earl will take part in the official opening of the Saskatchewan Federated Indian College on the University of Regina campus. Prince Edward will then present the Duke of Edinburgh gold awards to young people from Saskatchewan and other provinces. In the evening the Lieutenant Governor will host a dinner for the Earl of Wessex at Government House.

The Earl of Wessex will spend June 22nd, the final day of the tour, in Moose Jaw. After attending Sunday service at St. John's Anglican Church, he will participate in a military ceremony with the Saskatchewan Dragoons, an army reserve unit. Premier Lorne Calvert will then host a provincial luncheon. During the afternoon the Earl will unveil a plaque at the city's cultural centre and take part in Moose Jaw centennial celebrations in Crescent Park. His last engagement will be a visit to the Moose Jaw fair.
