INQUEST INTO THE DEATH OF HARRY HAINEAULT

A public inquest into the death of Harry Haineault has been scheduled for December 3 through December 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Meadow Lake Courthouse.

Haineault, aged 38, was fatally shot on September 2, 2008 in an altercation with the RCMP on the Clearwater River Dene First Nation. This inquest was originally scheduled for March 12 through 16, 2012, but was postponed.

Section 19 of The Coroners Act, 1999 states that the Chief Coroner may direct that an inquest be held into the death of any person. In addition to establishing who died, when and where the individual died, the medical cause of death and the manner of death, the coroner's jury can make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Coroner Alma Wiebe, Q.C., of Saskatoon will preside at the inquest.
