News Release - March 16, 2009 SOCIAL WORK WEEK MARCH 15-21Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer has proclaimed March 15-21 as Social Work Week in Saskatchewan, in honour of the province's social workers. The theme of this year's week of recognition is "Social Workers Make a Difference in the Lives of Older Adults." "The compassion and expertise of social workers helps older adults in Saskatchewan lead fuller lives and enjoy more comfortable, independent retirements," Harpauer said. "The hard work and commitment of social workers makes our province a better place to live for all Saskatchewan people, young and old. Join us in recognizing the efforts of these dedicated professionals during Social Work Week, March 15-21." "Social workers support the aspirations and dreams of people of all ages, including older adults," Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) president Jim Walls said. "Social workers advocate for older adults and their families, assist in planning for change, help navigate the health system, provide support for independent living, and promote policies that ensure each older adult has the resources and services necessary to live a satisfying and rewarding life."
