News Release - February 22, 2005 FORMER PREMIER PORTRAIT UNVEILED
Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty accepted the official portrait of former Progressive Conservative Premier Grant Devine, in the Legislative Building Art Collection today.
The portrait was unveiled by Mr. Devine at a ceremony held in the Legislative Building. The painting by Cyril Leeper, one of Canada's foremost portraitists, will hang in the Saskatchewan Gallery. The Gallery features the portraits of Saskatchewan premiers, commissioned by various governments since the establishment of the province in 1905. "It is important to recognize and honour our former premiers and the vital role they played in helping to shape this province," Beatty said. "As Premier, Mr. Devine contributed to Saskatchewan's proud and vibrant character." Grant Devine served as Saskatchewan's 12th Premier from 1982 to 1991. -30- For More Information, Contact:
