KNOW BEFORE YOU GO – REMEMBER THE ORANGE ZONE

Weekly Highway Construction Updates Begin During Canada Road Safety Week

With Victoria Day long weekend approaching, motorists are once again reminded to be aware of the Orange Zones throughout the highway construction season, as some longer-term projects are now underway, while spring maintenance and flood repairs are ongoing.

"This weekly ‘snapshot' of work, coupled with our Highway Hotline service, can help you plan a more efficient and safer trip by knowing where you may expect delays due to construction that's at various stages," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said. "Remember to watch out for the Orange Zone, be alert and be prepared to stop as directed and keep in mind that drivers who exceed 60 km/h when passing highway workers and equipment face a base fine of $140."

Provincial highway construction work, such as capital construction, maintenance and repairs is ongoing in several parts of Saskatchewan with work progressing on more than 20 projects, such as twinning Highway 11 between Prince Albert and Saskatoon. For more details and information about other projects, please see the attached backgrounder.

For information about emergency road closures due to severe weather or other events, status of ferries and barges, along with other road activities, motorists and media can also get additional travel information from the Highway Hotline.

The Highway Hotline is online at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions/ and via telephone or wireless device as follows: Regina and area at 306-787-7623; Saskatoon and area at 306-933-8333; on the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD; and toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623; and at http://roadinfo.telenium.ca/mobile.html. This update is also posted on Facebook on the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline page.

Canada Road Safety week runs from May 16 to May 23.
