News Release - April 17, 2007 PREMIER EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FORMER LIEUTENANT GOVERNORPremier Lorne Calvert expressed condolences on behalf of the Province on the passing of John (Jack) Wiebe, former Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. Jack Wiebe was the province's 18th lieutenant governor. He served in that capacity from 1994 to 2000. “Jack Wiebe brought the vice-regal role alive for everyone he met, from school children to farm families to senior citizens,” Calvert said. “He represented the Crown with dignity and always displayed the fundamental spirit of what it means to be from Saskatchewan.” In 2000, he was appointed to the Senate representing the senatorial division of Saskatchewan. He resigned in 2004. Jack Wiebe received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005. He was inducted into the Order of St. John of Jerusalem on October 21, 1994, and holds the grade of Knight. A state memorial service will be held on April 24 at 1:30 p.m. in Swift Current at the First United Church. Flags on all provincial government buildings will be at half-mast until the evening of the day of the service.
