BIG RIVER FIRST NATION AND GREEN LAKE RECEIVE CDTF FUNDING

The Government of Saskatchewan announced the approval of two projects totalling more than $3.1 million for the communities of Big River First Nation and Green Lake under the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF).

Big River First Nation will receive $1.66 million in funding for construction of a Centre of Excellence that will serve as a central location for the incubation of small business. The Centre will also offer skill development, job training and counselling for job opportunities.

The Village of Green Lake will receive $1.5 million in funding to proceed with the development of a tourist park which includes 25 RV sites and a boat launch.

"We want to make sure that Saskatchewan communities are ready and able to attract new investment and adjust to changing markets," Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Nadine Wilson said, who made the announcement in the Big River First Nation this morning on behalf of Enterprise Saskatchewan. "Big River First Nation and the Village of Green Lake have both created local solutions that will create jobs and business opportunities that will help to revitalize their communities."

The federal government announced a $1 billion CDTF in 2008 that was intended to help support activities that strengthen economic opportunities for communities negatively affected by global financial and commodity market disruption. Saskatchewan's share of the fund is $36.4 million over three years.
