PROVINCE PROCLAIMS CHILD CARE WEEK

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 25th to 31st as Child Care Week.

"Child Care Week recognizes the quality care provided to our children by workers and volunteers across the province," Community Resources and Employment Minister Glenn Hagel said. "This week marks an exciting time in Saskatchewan as the province is increasing its commitment to children and their families through Child Care Saskatchewan, a plan creating 500 new child care spaces this year, and a total of 1200 new spaces over four years."

"The new child care spaces increase families' access to quality and affordable child care while they go to school or work," Hagel said. "Our increased commitment to child care is part of our plan to work with Saskatchewan people to build a province with a wide open future."

Effective June 1st, the province is raising child care subsidies by an average of $20 per child per month. The provincial government is spending $22 million this year to support approximately 7,900 child care spaces in Saskatchewan.

Volunteers across the province organize events for both caregivers and children in their communities throughout Child Care Week.
