News Release - October 28, 2009 ENVIRONMENT MINISTERS TO ADDRESS WATER, CLIMATE CHANGEProtecting our water and reporting greenhouse gas emissions will be on the agenda as Environment Minister Nancy Heppner meets with her colleagues from across Canada in Kingston, Ontario on October 29. Heppner will be meeting with federal, provincial and territorial environment ministers at a meeting of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME). Discussions will include consideration of a Canada-wide strategic direction for water. "Protecting Canada's clean and safe water supply is the top priority for all provincial and territorial Environment Ministers," Heppner said. "Since our rivers, streams and lakes transcend the borders of provinces and territories, a co-ordinated plan through CCME is the most effective and efficient approach." Ministers will also discuss a single-window system for industry and governments to report on greenhouse gas emissions. "I am looking forward to sharing Saskatchewan's plan to address climate change with my colleagues," Heppner said. "Consistent, verifiable emissions reporting nation-wide will be an important tool in ensuring measurable, transparent results, allowing those affected by new climate change legislation to put their efforts where they really count - on reducing their emissions." -30- For more information, contact:
