News Release - March 21, 2005 SASKATCHEWAN TO RETAIN CURRENT TIME SYSTEM
The Province of Saskatchewan will retain the current time system established by The Time Act.
"The government listened to many different organizations and individuals who were passionate about either adopting or rejecting Daylight Saving Time," Government Relations Minister Len Taylor said. "The time zone issue in Saskatchewan affects everyone and continues to be a divisive issue for which there is no clear consensus for change." The Time Act introduced a compromise solution providing uniform time throughout the province. Under The Time Act, Saskatchewan adopted Central Standard Time and therefore shares the same time as Alberta during the summer months and the same time as Manitoba during the winter months. People living in jurisdictions that observe Daylight Saving Time turn their clocks ahead one hour in the first week of April and turn their clocks back one hour in the last week of October. More information on the time system in Saskatchewan can be found in the document "A Scientific and Historical Background Regarding the Time System in Saskatchewan" on the Government Relations web site at: www.municipal.gov.sk.ca -30- For More Information, Contact:
