CONNECTING YOUTH WITH LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Are you a young Saskatchewan person looking to make a difference but not sure of how to get connected to leadership opportunity?

The department of Culture, Youth and Recreation (CYR) is introducing a new process to help engage youth in community leadership roles. CYR, which has in the past helped appoint youth to the Provincial Youth Advisory Committee (PYAC) and to Crown Board positions, has expanded its reach and process to include more young people.

Housed on the department's youth website, www.SaskYouth.net, the application process allows youth to create their own leadership profiles, which will be used to connect them to leadership opportunities as they arise. These opportunities will become available as organizations express interest in engaging youth. Interested organizations can complete their own online applications detailing the opportunity and requirements for the position and CYR will then find eligible candidates for the position.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for youth and for organizations across the province," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "It's a win-win situation. Youth get the experience and engagement they are looking for and organizations get the benefit of a fresh perspective, valuable insight and the energy of youth."

Youth who complete leadership profiles by August 11th will be considered for the current PYAC recruitment process. PYAC is currently seeking Saskatchewan youth between the ages of 14 and 29 to serve on the committee, which acts as a policy advisory group to the provincial government on issues of concern to youth.
