News Release - October 24, 2012 SASKATCHEWAN RESIDENTS ASKED FOR FEEDBACK ON RECREATION
The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is asking all Saskatchewan residents to share their thoughts on how recreation affects their lives. This is the third phase of consultations on a report that will contribute to the development of a new recreation policy. As part of the consultation plan, Phase 3 provides the public a chance to review the report following two rounds of consultation with the sector on the current state of recreation in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is hosting a survey on their website at www.spra.sk.ca/recsurvey/ that asks for feedback. People can participate until November 9, 2012. In the fall of 2011, the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport and SPRA began the process of seeking information through consultation on the recreation sector in Saskatchewan. In Phase 1, fifteen key stakeholders were interviewed. This information was collected and incorporated into a draft report. This draft report was used as the basis for Phase 2 which consisted of a one-day workshop in Saskatoon with close to 80 stakeholders in attendance. Feedback from Phase 2 was used to focus the report that is now available to review online in Phase 3. The firm Professional Environmental Recreation Consultants, hired last year through an request for proposal process to conduct the consultations, is expected to submit a final report by the end of 2012. -30- For more information, contact:
