News Release - November 10, 2011 TWO BUSINESSES FINED AFTER WORKER INJUREDLyle V. Schell Construction Management Services Ltd. of North Battleford has pleaded guilty to three counts under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act. The company was fined $12,600 in North Battleford Provincial Court. These convictions related to an incident that took place on June 30, 2009, OHS was called to the scene of a new building site in North Battleford where a worker employed by Clark Roofing (1964) Ltd. sustained serious injuries after falling through an unprotected opening in a roof. In the same incident, Clark Roofing (1964) Ltd. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty to two counts under the OHS Act. The company was fined $10,000 in court. Two other charges against Clark Roofing (1964) Ltd. were stayed. The company pleaded guilty to failure to ensure that an opening in the roof into which a worker could step or fall was protected; and failure to ensure the health, safety and welfare of a worker at work. OHS conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced, and investigates where workers are killed or seriously injured in a work related incident. -30- For more information, contact:
