SASKATCHEWAN TRANSPORTATION COMPANY ANNUAL REPORT RELEASED

The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) released its 2012 Annual Report today highlighting a strong customer satisfaction rating.

“STC’s 2012 annual report outlines a year of challenges,” Minister responsible for STC Don McMorris said.  “However, the organization continues to receive strong support from the ridership with a customer satisfaction rating of 92.6 per cent.”

Industry changes in neighbouring jurisdictions directly impacted STC’s ridership, revenues and expenses.  Options for riders coming to Saskatchewan and connections for Saskatchewan passengers travelling to other parts of Canada were reduced.  Initial estimates were that ridership could be down significantly.

“STC worked hard to mitigate the expected reductions in ridership,” McMorris said.  “Promotions in the second half of 2012 helped reduce the decline to only 2.1 per cent.”

Ongoing efficiencies were sought to offset reductions in revenue due to declines in ridership.

“Frequency reductions and end-point eliminations were implemented in an effort to cut costs while minimizing the impact on our ridership,” STC President and CEO Shawn Grice said.  “The company also looked at our fleet investment strategies to ensure we have access to pre-owned coaches at costs significantly below buying new.”

Highlights of STC’s 2012 Annual Report include:

  • Passenger satisfaction ratings of 92.6 per cent (2011: 93.0 per cent).
  • Operating grant of $9.2 million (2011: $8.7 million).
  • Capital grant of $2.3 million (2011: $2 million).
  • $15.9 million in revenues (2011: $16.7 million).
  • $28.8 million in operating expenses (2011: $28.1 million).
  • Carried 282,119 passengers (2011: 288,164).
  • Travelled 3.1 million scheduled miles (2011: 3.2 million), serving 287 Saskatchewan communities (2011: 290).
