MINISTER RECOGNIZES MUNICIPAL ELECTION CANDIDATES

Municipal Affairs Minister Jeremy Harrison is encouraging Saskatchewan people to get out and vote in municipal elections in cities, towns, villages and most northern municipalities.

Harrison said the commitment by candidates to run for election should be commended.

"I want to acknowledge and thank the candidates who put their names on the ballot for consideration to be elected to municipal councils," Harrison said. "Municipal government impacts our lives everyday and councillors put considerable time and effort into strengthening municipal services and improving our communities.

"All candidates should be thanked for their leadership and commitment in working to move Saskatchewan forward and I urge the public go out and vote."

Polls for municipal elections on Oct. 28 will close at 8 p.m. Rural Municipalities will hold elections in even numbered divisions on November 4. Some northern municipalities held elections October 7.

Saskatchewan has 786 municipalities - 15 cities, 145 towns, 266 villages, 40 resort villages, 296 rural municipalities, two northern towns, 11 northern villages and 11 northern hamlets.
