PROVINCE RECOGNIZES DAY OF MOURNING

April 28 is the Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured on the job. Over the last 12 months 36 people died and many more were injured in workplace accidents throughout the province.

"In Saskatchewan, we recognize the Day of Mourning as an opportunity to honour workers who have lost their lives or who have been injured," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Today and every day, it is crucial that each of us take time to make health and safety a priority while working."

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour raises awareness about health and safety in Saskatchewan workplaces with a goal of preventing all work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths.

Norris expressed his condolences to the families and friends of those who have experienced the death or serious injury of a loved one.

"The death and injury of workers is a tragedy not just for the families but for all of society," Norris said. "I share with each of you who have lost a loved one my deepest sympathies and a sincere commitment to making health and safety a vibrant part of workplace culture in Saskatchewan."
