The Government of Saskatchewan's Information Technology Office (ITO) will be hosting a kick-off breakfast on Wednesday January 13, 2010 for approximately 50 Paul J. Hill School of Business students set to attend the annual Jeux du Commerce (JDC) West competition.
The 7:30 breakfast event will be held at the University Club in College West at the University of Regina (U of R). Later that day, the students will depart for the competition which this year is being held at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, B.C. The three-day competition begins Friday, January 15.
Minister responsible for Information Technology Office June Draude will be the guest speaker. Other attendees include: University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons; the Dean of Business Administration, Dr. Anne Lavack; ITO Deputy Minister Gerald Fiske; Faculty Advisor Dr. Lisa Watson; and JDC West Team co-captains Andrea Mulholland and Lucy Quach-Parker.
For the second straight year, the ITO is once again the premier sponsor of the U of R's JDC West Team. As premier sponsor, the ITO provides the team with funding assistance to cover travel and project expenses, and also offers two annual internship opportunities to U of R business students.
Last year, Hill School of Business students took home second-place for the second consecutive year in the JDC West Commerce Games. There were 11 business case challenges, including marketing, management information systems, entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, strategy and human resources.
The Jeux du Commerce competition began in Quebec in 1989. Today, JDC West is the largest student-run business competition in Western Canada and is a three-day event that showcases academic competitions, athletic challenges, a social competition and a charity initiative. More than 500 students from 10 of Western Canada's top Universities unite annually to compete in this competition that is solely organized by and for business students.
