INVESTING IN PRINCE ALBERT AND LA LOCHE SCHOOLS

Students in Prince Albert and La Loche will soon be studying in new surroundings. Learning Minister Judy Junor today announced the government's approval for funding of major capital projects in both northern communities.

"As part of our long-term K-12 capital strategy, the Government of Saskatchewan is investing in improved learning environments for Saskatchewan students," Junor said. "We are committed to working with school divisions to ensure students have modern and well-equipped schools."

The provincial government will provide approximately $3 million for an addition and renovations to the La Loche Community School's Dene Building in the Northern Lights School Division. The project will alleviate overcrowding and critical space shortages.

"Saskatchewan Learning is working closely with the Northern Lights School division to pursue joint-use partnerships for this project," Junor said. "My department supports and encourages such partnerships as creative, innovative, and effective means to make the best use of our resources and to maximize program offerings for students."

The provincial government will also provide approximately $4.5 million to replace Prince Albert's Vincent Massey Community School in the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division. The new school will provide students with a high quality learning environment as well as space for Kids First, childcare, preschool and community school programs.

"These projects demonstrate our government's commitment to highest-priority school construction projects," Junor said. "Today's announcements are sure to be welcome news for students, parents and teachers in La Loche and Prince Albert. By investing in the education of our young people, we are demonstrating our future is indeed wide open."
