News Release - October 19, 2009 SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES EDUCATION WEEKThe Minister of Education has proclaimed October 18-24 as Education Week 2009 in Saskatchewan. This year's theme, Achieving My Inner Best, provides an opportunity to celebrate uniqueness and highlight student achievement and excellence across the province. To kick-off Education Week, Minister Krawetz launched the new online curriculum at Wilfrid Walker School in Regina. "Advancing the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning in Saskatchewan schools is essential to the social and economic development of individuals, communities and the province," Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz said. "By creating an online curriculum, we are providing educational stakeholders and citizens easy access to provincial curricula, resources and related documents in a venue that offers more precise and effective search capabilities in both official languages." The new online curriculum takes advantage of the newest technologies and leverages the educational technology infrastructure upgrades of CommunityNet and Blackboard announced in 2008. The site allows linking between the curriculum, support materials and the teacher's classroom, while integrating video and audio resources within the curricula. Materials are presented in an engaging and flexible format, which can be utilized as required for instructional purposes.
