CORPORATIONS BRANCH JOINING ISC ON OCTOBER 1

On October 1, 2010, Corporations Branch from the Ministry of Justice will be joining Information Services Corporation (ISC) and their series of registries.

After the branch joins ISC, it will officially be re-named the Corporate Registry.

Staff with the Corporate Registry will continue to provide service at their 200 - 1871 Smith Street office in Regina until March 25, 2011, when they will move to ISC's 1301 - 1st Avenue location. Phone and fax numbers will not change as a result of the transfer.

"We are fully prepared for the transfer," Minister responsible for ISC Tim McMillan said. "The corporation has been working closely with the Ministry of Justice since the transfer was first announced in February to ensure that customers and staff will both enjoy a smooth and seamless transition."

Corporations Branch is the primary contact point for all businesses in Saskatchewan and houses key business information. It co-ordinates, promotes, develops, implements and enforces policies and programs that relate to the registration and regulation of business corporations, non-profit corporations, co-operatives, credit unions and other businesses in Saskatchewan.

"Corporations Branch has always provided the business community with exceptional service," McMillan said. "Going forward, I am confident that the business community will continue to be well-served by ISC given their history of administering various public and private registries, and the considerable skills of Corporations Branch staff."

"All 33 employees will be coming over to ISC as part of the transfer," ISC President and CEO Jeff Stusek said. "Their expertise will contribute significantly toward the development of ISC's online business registration portal, of which the first phase is due to launch in March 2011."

The business registration portal will provide basic information related to starting a business in Saskatchewan and will allow entrepreneurs to quickly and conveniently complete three important steps: register their business name; register their business with the Workers' Compensation Board and register with the Ministry of Finance for provincial sales tax purposes.
