SASKATCHEWAN MINISTERS LOOKING TO ADDRESS ISSUES IMPORTANT TO PROVINCE AT NATIONAL MEETING

Justice Minister and Attorney General, Don Morgan, and Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister, D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert will join their counterparts in Vancouver this week.

Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for Justice and Public Safety will meet to discuss a wide range of issues. Saskatchewan's Ministers will be sharing the province's perspective on issues relevant to justice systems across Canada.

"We are seeking ways to work with other jurisdictions on such concerns as missing women and strengthening and making criminal law and criminal process more effective," Morgan said.

Other issues of interest to Saskatchewan include how First Nations communities are provided policing services.

"This Government is committed to ensuring First Nations communities have appropriate policing services to fit their unique needs," Huyghebaert said. "Saskatchewan has made considerable progress in this area."

Meeting dates are October 13 to 15, 2010.
