News Release - May 3, 2003 LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH
A new Provincial Youth Advisory Committee has been established by the provincial government to focus on key priorities such as promoting and enhancing Saskatchewan's opportunities for young people. Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford today welcomed the committee members.
The mandate of the Provincial Youth Advisory Committee will include making recommendations to government on issues of concern to youth, producing concrete proposals to enhance and promote opportunities for youth, and launching a new youth-focused website. "The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee is part of government's strategy to produce concrete ideas for attracting and retaining Saskatchewan youth and ensuring youth voices are taken seriously," Crofford said. "Government recognizes that Saskatchewan's young people have the insight and drive to make huge contributions to our province." The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee is comprised of 19 youth from across the province ranging in ages from 14 to 29, and will provide an excellent opportunity for young people to develop their leadership skills and to work with other youth from diverse backgrounds around the province. "The launch of the Provincial Youth Advisory Committee will create numerous opportunities for Saskatchewan youth," Committee Co-Chair Amy Sandeski said. "We are committed to ensuring that all Saskatchewan youth benefit from our ideas." To ensure continuity, members are appointed for either one or two year terms. For those interested in future appointments to the committee, applications will be available online at www.cyr.gov.sk.ca as of May 12th, 2003. -30- For More Information, Contact:
