RECRUITING MORE PHYSICIANS FOCUS OF UK TRIP

Saskatchewan's health recruitment agency is travelling to a recruitment fair in London, England, to attract physicians to Saskatchewan.

"Keeping and attracting key health providers is a top priority of this government as part of our plan to reduce wait times and improve access to health services," Health Minister Len Taylor said. "We understand many physicians in the United Kingdom are looking for work in other countries, so we want to give them an opportunity to consider - and choose - Saskatchewan as their new home."

Started in October 2006, the recruitment agency - HealthCareersInSask.ca - is a no-fee one-stop health care recruitment web site connecting health workers with career opportunities in Saskatchewan's health regions and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. As of September, the number of applications to the web site had almost tripled since spring, from 370 in February to over 1,100.

Two health recruitment agency officials will be accompanied by staff from Regina Qu'Appelle, Saskatoon and Sun Country health regions.

The trip is scheduled from October 5 to 6.
