Visitors to the North Battleford branch of the Western Development Museum (WDM) will soon be able to enjoy exciting new exhibits.

The Government of Saskatchewan announced an $800,000 increase in the WDM's annual operating budget, along with a one-time $2 million grant to initiate Phase Three of the interactive exhibit, Winning the Prairie Gamble, at all four WDM branches located in Saskatoon, North Battleford, Yorkton and Moose Jaw.

"The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to supporting our key cultural infrastructure," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Sandra Morin said. "With the budget increase and the one-time grant, we're ensuring that our shared history is preserved for future generations. It's one more way we are improving the quality of life throughout Saskatchewan."

Winning the Prairie Gamble is a series of interactive exhibits showcasing a century of social, economic and cultural change in Saskatchewan.

Each of the four Western Development Museum branches features a different theme to highlight the achievements and accomplishments of Saskatchewan's people, communities and businesses. The stories of natural resources, agricultural innovation and First Nations education are told at North Battleford.

"Families in North Battleford and the surrounding area will experience a tremendous benefit from a reinvigorated Western Development Museum," Health Minister and Battlefords MLA Len Taylor said. "This investment will encourage young people and families to investigate our shared past and engage in cultural activities."

"The Western Development Museum is extremely excited by this announcement," WDM board chair Rena Weikle said. "The increase in the base operating budget will see the Western Development Museum into the future, while the $2 million grant will give us the funds we need to complete our most ambitious and groundbreaking project yet."
