CENTENARY FUND CONTRIBUTES TO WHITE CITY COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT

People in White City are now enjoying new pathways and lighting thanks to a contribution from the province's Centenary Fund.

The province contributed $50,500 toward the cost of the $98,034 development. The 1.5 kilometres of lighted, asphalt pathways connect White City to the Emerald Ridge area of Emerald Park and White City School pathways. Twelve streetlights enhance visibility on Kingsmere Avenue, Poplar Park, Wheatland, and Confederation Park. The tennis court will soon be resurfaced and basketball hoops added. The tennis court area will then be able to be used as an outdoor rink in winter.

"White City's community enhancement project is testimony to the creative ways that Saskatchewan people are partnering with government to build on the excellent quality of life in Saskatchewan," Regina Wascana Plains MLA Doreen Hamilton said, on behalf of Government Relations Minister Ron Osika. "The people in White City can enjoy a well-lit pathway system linking them to their Emerald Park neighbours."

"White City is again leading the way by providing first-class leisure and recreational facilities to our residents," Mayor Rob Mitchelson said. "With the help of the Centenary Fund, White City is delighted to be able to extend our lighted and paved community pathway system, and provide a much needed resurfacing to our tennis courts."

The Centenary Fund was set up to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's Centennial for future generations. Leading up to the centennial celebrations in 2005, the government is funding projects that are of provincial or regional benefit and develop municipal infrastructure.
