PROVINCE ANNOUNCES $415,000 IN SUPPORT OF COMMUNITY LITERACY PLANS

Today, the Ministry of Education announced that nine communities from across the province will share in $385,000 in funding under the SaskSmart Innovations Fund to support the implementation of their Community Literacy Plans.

Three additional organizations have been awarded $10,000 each to develop Expressions of Interest (EOI) which will lead to future Community Literacy Plans.

"The Government of Saskatchewan supports a number of initiatives that promote and develop a highly skilled and literate population," Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. "The Community Literacy Plan funding supports our investment in innovative and sustainable local literacy programs."

The funding helps to establish a system of SaskSmart community-based organizations to deliver literacy programming and services through partnerships at the local level. The program supports the expansion of innovative literacy practices in areas of the province that do not currently provide such programs and services.
