SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEERS HONOURED

Today Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart presented eight citizens with the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal at Government House. The Medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

"It is a great privilege to present the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal to outstanding volunteers," Barnhart said. "This year's deserving honourees join a most impressive group of past recipients who have made a tremendous difference in our province."

The recipients are:

  • Eric E. Antonini, retired businessman, Saskatoon
  • Anita Bella, retired teacher, Melville
  • Margaret Debenham, retired historian, Kennedy
  • Barbara Dedi, psychiatric nurse, Regina 
  • Lyle Karasiuk, advanced care paramedic, Prince Albert
  • Kenneth H. Miller, retired farmer, Redvers
  • Albert (Rocky) Rochelle, retired community leader, Saskatoon
  • Dianne Wilson, historian, Saskatoon

Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public. Including the eight new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 112 outstanding individuals since 1995. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada.
