EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS WEEK

Corrections and Public Safety Minister Peter Prebble along with Environment Minister David Forbes and members of the provincial emergency management committee will visit the Prince Albert Fire Centre on Thursday, May 5th to highlight Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada May 1st -7th.

"As the Minister of Corrections and Public Safety, keeping individuals, families and communities safe is a priority for myself and your government," Prebble said. "Many Canadians, including Saskatchewan citizens, will face severe weather, fire, floods and other natural or human disasters this year and although these events are beyond our control, there are significant ways to prepare and to reduce their potential tragic consequences."

"This is the beginning of the wildfire season in Saskatchewan and it is timely during Emergency Preparedness Week, for Saskatchewan Environment and other members of the provincial emergency planning committee to demonstrate our state of readiness and ability to respond," Forbes said. "In addition to our own preparedness we are also providing information on how people and communities can protect themselves and their property from wildfire."

The national focus for Emergency Preparedness Week is on helping families and individuals prepare for emergencies. In partnership with the federal government and other provinces and territories, resources to help families and individuals develop their own emergency plans have been distributed to some 1,500 key community responders in Saskatchewan.

More information about effective emergency planning is available on the Emergency Preparedness Week web site at www.EPweek.ca.
