LABOUR DAY AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAY \"THANK YOU\"

Labour Minister Deb Higgins says the upcoming Labour Day holiday is an opportunity to ensure the essential role played by working men and women in building Saskatchewan is acknowledged in the province's centennial year.

"Labour Day is a time to celebrate the great achievements of working people," Higgins said. "As we celebrate our province's centennial, we say 'thank you' to the working men and women in Saskatchewan who for more than 100 years have built, operated and maintained the systems that produce our goods, transport them to markets around the world, and bring the world's goods to us. Their efforts have made Saskatchewan and Canada a place of prosperity envied around the world."

"We all depend on the goods and services working people deliver. On Labour Day we honour them for building and maintaining our homes and workplaces, educating our children, caring for our sick and providing for our security."

"Saskatchewan's labour force has earned a reputation for being dedicated, innovative and productive. Their work has also earned Saskatchewan an international reputation as a prosperous place to live, work and raise a family."

"2005 is Saskatchewan's 100th anniversary and there is no more fitting time than our Centennial Year Labour Day to celebrate the builders of this province. On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I am very pleased to extend heartfelt thanks to all working people and to wish them success and prosperity in the future."

Labour Day was proclaimed a national holiday by Parliament on July 23rd, 1894.
