BOB MCGRATH RECOGNIZED FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO SASKATCHEWAN

Premier Brad Wall presented the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award to entertainer, actor and humanitarian Bob McGrath in Saskatoon today.

“It is truly an honour to present this award to such a worthy individual,” Wall said.  “For more than three decades Mr. McGrath has touched the lives of thousands of Saskatchewan families through his work with the Kinsmen Telemiracle.  On behalf of a very grateful province, I would like to thank Mr. McGrath for all that he has done for our most vulnerable citizens.”

Perhaps best known for his iconic role as that music teacher “Bob” on the children’s television show Sesame Street, Mr. McGrath has also served as host of the Kinsmen Telemiracle 35 times, helping raise more than $95 million to assist Saskatchewan people to acquire special needs equipment and access to medical treatment.

The Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award recognizes non-residents of the province who have made outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan and the development of the provincial economy, culture and society.

Nominations for the Distinguished Service Award may be proposed by any ministry, agency or Crown corporation of the Government of Saskatchewan, or authority in which the government is a direct partner.

Including Mr. McGrath, 23 non-residents have received the award since its inception in 1997.
