TISDALE BUILDING NAMED IN HONOUR OF CENTENNIAL

Saskatchewan Property Management is recognizing Saskatchewan's Centennial by naming several government buildings after people or circumstances that have contributed significantly to the history and growth of the province.

"When we think of the Centennial theme 100 Years of Heart, it's important to remember those early leaders who have left a legacy of strength and prosperity in our province," Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Property Management Deb Higgins said. "It's very fitting to honour their lives, and the communities where they lived and worked, with the permanent dedication of a building."

This morning, the provincial office building at 1105 – 99 Street West in Tisdale was named the Brockelbank Place in honour of the second-longest serving MLA in Saskatchewan history. John H. Brockelbank was first elected to represent the Tisdale area in 1938. He continued to be re-elected to serve that area until 1967, when he retired.

Also known as "Brock", he was a respected tactician in legislative procedure and played a significant role in establishing and developing the potash, uranium and oil industries that are so vital to the Saskatchewan economy.

The Tisdale building is the second of six government buildings being named for Saskatchewan's Centennial. Wiciwakan Place in Meadow Lake was named on June 27th in recognition of the partnership between Flying Dust First Nation and the government that was established to construct the building. Wiciwakan is the Cree word for partner.

The next SPM building naming will take place in Regina in early October.
