MINISTER APPOINTS AN INTERIM BOARD CHAIR FOR SIAST

Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris today announced the appointment of Pam Schwann as interim Board Chair at SIAST - the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.

The appointment takes effect immediately.

"Ms. Schwann brings a wealth of private and public sector experience to this new position," Norris said. "And, since she is already serving on the board, Ms. Schwann is fully up to date on the opportunities available to this important institution."

Schwann is the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, which represents all producing mines in the province, as well as the mineral exploration sector. Pam attained a Bachelor of Science, Honours from the University of Regina and a Master of Science from Carleton University in Ottawa. She served as a geoscientist with the provincial government for ten years in La Ronge, and was also a sessional lecturer with NORTEP/NORPAC during that time. Prior to joining the Saskatchewan Mining Association, Pam was the Director, Mines, Saskatchewan Industry and Resources.

Schwann steps in for Alan Thomarat who resigned from the board. Thomarat was appointed in November 2008. He will be focusing on the important work of growing a stronger housing industry for Saskatchewan, in his roles as the Chief Executive Officer, Saskatoon & Region Home Builders Association and Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Home Builders Association - Saskatchewan.

Jim Plewis also resigned from the Board and from his position as Vice-Chair.

"I would like to thank Alan for his dedicated service as a board member and as Chair, and wish him the very best in these important endeavors," Norris said. "I also thank Jim for his service as a board member and as Vice-Chair."
