EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT MINISTERS MEET IN TORONTO TO ADDRESS PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUES

Federal, provincial and territorial Ministers responsible for emergency management are meeting in Toronto on Tuesday and Wednesday to strengthen emergency preparedness in Canada.

Saskatchewan Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert will attend the meeting on behalf of the province.

"We will use this meeting as an opportunity discuss the experiences that jurisdictions have had recently in relation to flooding and other natural disasters," Huyghebaert said. "I am confident that, by working together, we will find solutions to help benefit Saskatchewan by ensuring the safety and security of all citizens."

A national emergency response system, a strategy in support of aboriginal communities and a national public alerting system are among some of the agenda topics being discussed by the Ministers.
