PREMIER PRESENTS AWARD FOR YOUTH HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST

Premier Lorne Calvert presented the first place award in the Youth Heritage Poster Contest today at the Legislative Building. Grade Four student Tyler-Anne Boxall from Tisdale won for her depiction of the family barn, built by her great, great-grandfather in 1919.

"It is wonderful to see our young people looking at the rich heritage that we have in our communities and telling those stories that celebrate the strong foundation of our province," Premier Calvert said.

This is the first annual Youth Heritage Poster Contest that is put on by the Heritage Branch of Culture, Youth and Recreation with the assistance of Saskatchewan Learning, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Saskatchewan Heritage Advisory Board.

"This poster contest helps educate students about our heritage and foster an appreciation for culture," Calvert said

Students in grades 4, 8 and 12 were invited to submit a hand-crafted poster of a historic place in Saskatchewan with a written statement telling why the place is significant to them

The Youth Heritage Contest will run again in September with the winner announced during Heritage Week in February. Entry details are available at www.cyr.gov.sk.ca.
