MEDIA ADVISORY

On October 29, 2008 a media release announced the first increase to the Seniors Income Plan (SIP) since 1992. The media release contained maximum income thresholds which were in error. The correct maximum income threshold for a single senior to qualify for the program is $16,313.64 (release stated $18,593.64) and maximum annual income for a couple to qualify for the program is $26,468.64 (release stated $30,188.64).

The other information in the October 29 release was correct. Single seniors receiving the maximum under the program will see an increase from $90 to $190 per month and couples receiving the maximum will see an increase from $72.50 to $155 each per month. As well the maximum number of individuals receiving the benefit will increase from approximately 10,000 to about 20,000.

The ministry website has been updated to reflect accurate information.
