BIRD INQUEST

An inquest into the death of Rocky Bird will be held February 24th, 25th, and 26th, 2003, at 9:30 am at the Court of Queen's Bench, 520 Spadina Crescent East, Saskatoon.

Bird, aged 27, was found dead in his cell at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on February 3rd, 2002.

Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest to be held into the death of any person who dies while an inmate in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.

In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical cause of the death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.

The presiding Coroner will be Alma Wiebe of Saskatoon.
