News Release - October 10, 2006 27TH ANNUAL CO-OPERATIVE MERIT WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Five individuals and three co-operatives will be honoured October 16th at the 27th Saskatchewan Co-operative Merit Awards gala in Regina.
"The 2006 recipients of the Co-operative Merit Awards reflect not only how the roots of the co-operative system run deep into the fabric of Saskatchewan, but also how co-operatives can lead the province in new and exciting business opportunities," Deputy Premier and Regional Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Clay Serby said. "Each recipient of the award has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and outstanding service, meeting the needs of people in their community," Saskatchewan Co-operative Association Executive Director Warren Crossman said. "All recipients are leaders who have encouraged others with their compassion, wisdom and humility. They serve as models of inspiration to all who know them." Award recipients are selected by a committee of Saskatchewan Co-operative Association and Regional Economic and Co-operative Development representatives from applications submitted by individuals or co-operative organizations. The awards program recognizes outstanding contributions by co-operative and credit union leaders in the areas of volunteerism; leadership and innovation; and inspiration as role models. Since its inception in 1980, more than 230 individuals and organizations have received Co-operative Merit Awards. The gala is among several events being held during Co-operatives Week from October 15th to 21st. -30- For More Information, Contact:
