News Release - May 14, 2010 NEW IMMIGRATION OFFICE IN SASKATOON PROVIDES NEWCOMERS WITH BETTER ACCESS TO TOOLS AND INFORMATIONThe Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) opened a new Saskatoon office today that will provide newcomers to Saskatoon, community based organizations and businesses with easier access to the tools and information they need to make Saskatchewan home. The new office will focus on the SINP Entrepreneur Program's goals to recruit and retain immigrant entrepreneurs in the province and will also provide general SINP information to immigrants and members of the community. "By creating a Saskatchewan Immigration hub in Saskatoon - which receives nearly 40 per cent of Saskatchewan's newcomers - we are responding to the needs of the business and immigrant community and ensuring that the information newcomers need to successfully stay in Saskatchewan is more accessible," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour and Minister responsible for Immigration Rob Norris said. The SINP Entrepreneur Program is designed to bring people with management talent and investment capital to build businesses and create jobs in Saskatchewan, while also building networks that will foster successful businesses and retention. "This new hub reflects our commitment to working with our partners in fostering Saskatchewan's economic growth while creating more diverse, dynamic and cosmopolitan communities," Norris said. In addition to its primary goal of attracting entrepreneurs to Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon office will also support employers in hiring and retaining key employees and provide information on the SINP program. Immigration officers will also be available for individual appointments. The downtown location is near the Newcomer Information Centre, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and other key locations, and is easily accessible for applicants and employers alike. The new office space incorporates environmentally conscious design elements such as green materials and the ability to control the heating and cooling system. -30- For more information, contact:
