News Release - September 10, 2008 FORMER LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR PORTRAIT UNVEILEDPremier Brad Wall joined former Lieutenant Governor Dr. Lynda Haverstock to unveil her official portrait in a ceremony held in the Legislative Building today. "Dr. Haverstock embodied the very essence of what we have come to expect from this position," Wall said. "She represented the Crown with dignity and grace, and also represented the people of this province and the fundamental spirit of what it means to be from Saskatchewan." Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard accepted the portrait into the Legislative Building Art Collection. The painting, by Istvan Nyikos of Collingwood, Ontario, will hang in the Qu'Appelle Gallery. "The Qu'Appelle Gallery houses the display of portraits of Saskatchewan's Lieutenant Governors," Elhard said. "This collection serves to remind us that we all have benefited from the leadership of exceptional representatives and role models who have shaped our province, such as Dr. Haverstock." Haverstock served as Saskatchewan's 19th Lieutenant Governor from 2000 until 2006. -30- For more information, contact: Nicole Fellinger |
