News Release - June 4, 2004 IMPROVING SASKATCHEWAN SCHOOLS
Saskatchewan students and communities are the major beneficiaries of upgrades to schools throughout Saskatchewan this year. The provincial government is investing $3.3 million to improve the learning environment in 41 K-12 Saskatchewan schools for the 2004-05 fiscal year. With these projects, the total commitment by the government to K-12 capital projects this fiscal year is $22 million.
"We are investing in schools, in students and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. The projects announced today include improvements such as roof replacement and restoration, mechanical system upgrades, renovations, additions and relocatable classrooms, as well as preliminary planning funding. These projects will be cost-shared with the school divisions. "Schools today are more important than ever as vital centres of our communities," Thomson said. "We need to continue to upgrade learning facilities so they can serve Saskatchewan communities well." -30- For More Information, Contact:
